Laser Research Institute has been organized in 2004 on basis of Russian Center of Laser Physics. In 2007 the institute became a part of the chemical faculty of St. Petersburg State University.

The main objectives of the institute:

• Fundamental and applied researches and developments in the field of laser science.
• To get students and PhD students of natural-science faculties of the university to take part in the research activity of the institute; development of interdisciplinary educational programs; to engage staff of the institute in training of students using experimental facilities of the institute.
• International cooperation in the field of laser material science, laser chemistry, laser physics and laser technologies.

Activity of the institute:

• Realization of fundamental researches, experimental-design and promotional projects in the field of laser materials, laser chemistry, laser physics; development and short-run production of instruments and monitoring devices; promotion of laser technologies in industry.
• Development of laser facilities for common access.
• Training of scientific and pedagogical staff in the field of laser methods and technologies, preparation of methodical textbooks.
• Marketing and consulting (analysis and forecasting of home and foreign markets of laser assisted products).
• Preparation of proceedings, papers, reviews, monographs, conference materials, textbooks and manuals for publishing; construction and realization of databases and development of software.
• Organization of conferences, workshops and exhibitions.

The activity of the institute is closely related to the interests of the department of laser chemistry and laser materials of the chemical faculty. The institute collaborates successfully with other departments of the chemical faculty as well as with scientific groups of physical, geological and other nature-science faculties of the university. The staff of the institute takes part in educational and scientific work of these faculties.
